Karol Pádivý (1908 - 1965), musical composer and academic
Karol Pádivý (10th September 1908, Dolní Cerekev pri Jihlave – 25th September 1965, Trenčín) arrived in Trenčín on October 1st 1928, when he was recruited to join the 17th regiment musical group. After three years of work in army music he remained in Trenčín till his death. In 1941 in the textile factory Thiberghien and son (later known Merina) he formed a wind musical ensemble whose members were mainly formed from students of the factory. During the wartimes the Orchestra had between 60 to 80 members and belonged to one of the biggest civilian music ensembles in Europe. He composed at least 110 pieces of music. He elaborated a system of long-term education for conductors and composers of wind music. He elaborated teaching methodology and was securing high quality lecturers.
