Matúš Čák
An important legendary personality of Trenčín, is the Hungarian palatine, tavernic and district administrator of Trenčín, a feudal lord, oligarch and politician Matúš Čák (circa 1260 – 18. 3. 1321 Trenčín).
He was ruling a large part of Slovakia owned numerous castles and had property in many parts of the empire. In 1296 he appointed Trenčín castle to be his seat, his court was fashioned in a similar manner to Hungarian court. He was acting as an independent ruler up to his death in 1321.
