North west from Nové Mesto nad Váhom there is Bošácka valley, which is part of the Biele Karpaty (White Carpathians). As its silent guard there is a fortified roman church at the hill in Haluzice.

Nové Mesto nad Váhom lies in central Považie. First document times of the city are from 6. June 1253, when king Belo IV gave its inhabitants city rights for services shown during the Tartars invasion.

According to legends after major floods only four families survived in Pominovec and they saved seven sheep. These rescued inhabitants later built a new village and named it Sedmerovec (seven sheep).
