Castle Tematín was first documented in 1270 but it is definitely older. Ruins of the castle are situated on the western upper part of Považský Inovec in an area of Hrádok, southeast from Nové Mesto nad Váhom. The castle from its origins was a watch out location together with Trenčín, Beckov a Čachtice castles were part of protection of the northwest pass of the Hungarian empire.

It is accessible in several ways:
  • from recreation centre Bezovec (to bus stop Nová Lehota-Bezovec) after 1.5 hours. An asphalt road in direction of recreational area Chirana, from which there is a hiking path mainly through forest and then on the top of the mountain towards the ruins.
  • from village Lúka after 2 hours 15 minutes. Through Lúčanská valley and then a forest path.
  • from the village Hrádok (to here by bus) after 2 1/2 hours. Asphalt road through Hrádocká valley , then turning right towards the hill.
  • from the village Hrádok you can get to the castle also by an unmarked trail, suitable for mountain bikes. In the village through the stream right along by the houses behind the hill Chlm, is the path is passing by cottages and is elevating up the valley. At the end of the bend there is a turn to the right up to the castle
