Castle Uhrovec

In the western Slovakia in the mountains Strážovské mountains , on the steep hill there are towering ruins of castle Uhrovec from the 13th century. One of the most valuable roman castles in Slovakia, the estate of the castle in the 16th century belonged to an influential noble family Zayo, originated from Croatia. First documented records date from 1258.
The ruins are located 591 meters a.s.l. on the side mountain of Nitrické mountains (part of Strážovské mountains), close to the village Uhrovské Podhradie in a difficult terrain only accessible by car to Uhrovec under castle part, from here follow the green trail for approximately an hour or from the village Uhrovec following the red or blue trail.
