Village Čachtice

Village Čachtice, especially Čachtice castle which is famous for the duchess Elizabeth Bathory well known for her cruelty. According to legend she used to take a bath in blood of young virgins to gain eternal youth and beauty.
Čachtice castle was founded in the first half of the 13th century. In the 15th century it was expanded and during uprisings in 1708 Čachtice castle was burnt down by the army of František Rákóczi. From these times it has been degrading and currently it is a quaint ruin offering a beautiful view. Up to the meadow under the castle it is possible to drive, then a walk from Čachtíce (bus stop) following a yellow sign for approximately 45 minutes, walking from Višňové (train station) following the green sign for 45 minutes steep incline. Apart from the castle there is also a gothic church from the end of the 14th century. From the beginning of the 17th century a renaissance castle from 1668, in which there is museum.
 
Draškovičovský castle was built in 1668 and expanded at the end of the 17th century. Currently it is the seat of the exposition of Trenčin museum focussed on history of
Čachtíce and the surroundings. It does not only capture events, but also reveals the rich cultural traditions and folk customs of a town under Čachtice castle. Expositions introduce a collection of historical weapons, documents, clothing and jewellery items, and a collection of portraits of local nobility - exponents found during archaeological digs in the area and during reconstruction works.
Folk culture from Čachtice is present in ceramic and artefacts. In August 2008 there is a new exposition about Elizabeth Bathory – cruelty hidden in crochet is the dominating topic pertaining to the clothes of Elizabeth Bathory as according to photos.
